Welcome! My name is Dong Hyun Shin and I am an Assistant Professor in Management at the City University of Hong Kong. I received my BA in Economics with high honors and high distinction at the University of Michigan. I received my PhD in Business Administration at the University of Florida. Prior to joining academia, I worked as a consultant for the Deloitte Transfer Pricing team based in Chicago, Illinois.
My primary research interests stem from curiosity regarding the relationship between business and social conditions. In particular, my dissertation investigates the mechanisms through which 1) gender inequality manifests itself in entrepreneurship, 2) political contexts of geographic communities affect firm environmental performance, and 3) acquisition is linked to lower-risk innovation and declining breakthrough discoveries in the biopharmaceutical industry. In my research, I have extended and utilized diverse quantitative tools, including meta-analysis, panel data analysis, and assortative matching.
Aside from research, I enjoy reading books and articles, especially on the topics of social paradox. I am an avid powerlifter, a classic violinist, and a dog dad to my 3-year-old Chow Chow named “Cha Cha.”
